Big triple-A releases stayed quiet in July 2026, but horror fans still had plenty to play. Co-op scares took over the calendar this month, and small studios brought the loudest ideas. Forget waiting for October to get your yearly fright fix. Five new horror games land this month, alongside a fan-favorite map rework veteran ghost hunters need to see. Round up your squad early, because most of these picks punish anyone who plays alone.

The Mound: Omen of CthulhuFirst up, [The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2569760/The_Mound_Omen_of_Cthulhu/) drops July 15 on PC. Four players dive into a cursed jungle chasing treasure while Lovecraftian horrors twist what the group believes is real. A madness system warps your senses the deeper the expedition goes, so trust between teammates matters more than firepower. Spatialized voice chat means a friend screaming nearby sounds close instead of muffled through a menu. This detail alone makes coordination brutal once the jungle starts playing tricks on your squad.

![Happy's Humble BURGATORY](https://horror-gaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/HappyHumble2-1024x576.jpg)

Happy’s Humble BURGATORYNext, July 16 stacks two co-op picks back to back. [Happy’s Humble Burgatory ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3453910/Happys_Humble_BURGATORY/)throws four players into a cursed burger joint, grinding out orders before the restaurant’s own bloodthirsty mascot starts hunting the staff. Grease under your nails, panic in your chest, the kind of chaos horror fans live for. [Storebound](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3417410/Storebound/) lands the same day with three-player co-op set inside an abandoned department store crawling with puzzles and a demon hiding somewhere near the shoe department. Both games turn dead-end retail jobs into survival horror, and this hits different once you have worked retail yourself.

![Carnival Hunt](https://horror-gaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Carnival-Hunt-1024x576.jpg)

Carnival HuntThen comes [Carnival Hunt ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1181550/Carnival_Hunt/)on July 23, bringing five-player asymmetric mayhem to Steam. One player controls a monstrous puppeteer while the rest play innocent puppet bunnies trying to survive inside a shifting mechanical carnival. Movement drains your wind-up charge, so panicked running gets punished fast. Coordination beats speed here, since staying still sometimes keeps your group alive longer than sprinting away. Put your loudest friend up front. They will thank you later, or they will not.

![Shift at Midnight](https://horror-gaming.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/07/Shift-at-Midnight-1024x576.jpg)

Shift at Midnight[Shift at Midnight ](https://store.steampowered.com/app/3722330/Shift_At_Midnight/)rounds out the co-op lineup sometime this month, though Steam still lists the exact date as TBD. Three players run a shady gas station overnight, and some customers walk in already body-snatched. Spotting the difference before ringing them up keeps your shift alive. The setup sounds simple until the till comes up short and something behind the counter starts breathing wrong.

Timing matters here too. The Steam Summer Sale runs through July 9, so grab older horror favorites before the discounts disappear. Right after, Steam’s Social Deduction Fest takes over from July 13 through July 16, landing directly on top of the Storebound and Happy’s Humble Burgatory launch day. Wishlist your picks early, since demos and launch discounts tend to vanish fast once a fest wraps up.

Meanwhile, [Phasmophobia](https://store.steampowered.com/app/739630/Phasmophobia/) is not new, but the Willow Street rework on July 21 earns a spot on this list too. The map gets remodeled top to bottom, changing sightlines and hiding spots longtime players memorized years ago. Veteran ghost hunters running on muscle memory will need to relearn the layout fast. Fresh dread inside an old favorite counts as a win this month.

So July ends up a quieter month for horror releases, not an empty one. Co-op horror rules this particular calendar, so build your crew before picking a target. Solo players still get options through The Mound and Shift at Midnight, since lobby sizes flex depending on the group. Either way, keep the lights on and your headset volume low. Whatever waits in the jungle, the store, or the gas station wants you to hear the footsteps first.
